Chennai: About 30 women, belonging to Manithi, an organisation which works for the welfare of women and children in Chennai, will be heading to Sabarimala tomorrow.

The group is expected to reach Kottayam on the same day, from where they will start their journey to Sabarimala Ayyappa Temple.

It is said they had an email conversation with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan following which the Kerala police had asked them to come to the temple tomorrow.

It is also said the women underwent the fasting needed to go to the temple and they are embarking on this journey with the full support of their families. The women are all aged between 35 and 40.

Despite the Supreme Court verdict which allows women of all age groups to offer prayers at the temple, massive protests and violence broke out in Kerala against the verdict. So far, around 16 women have been turned away from entering the temple premises.
