A raga that is grand in every way, regal, meditative, bold and striking is Simhendramadhyamam. It is a Melakarta raga, complete in every way.

This raga has a universal appeal of music. It is widely used in cinema and classical music. Krithis set in this raga are sung in almost all concerts.

IN CLASSICAL MUSIC 

Kamakshi Kamakoti, Pamarajana and Neelachala Natham are popular krithis of Muthusamy Dikshitar. Popular krithi of Saint Thyagaraja is Needle Charanamule. Nata Jana Paripalaka, Unnaiyallal by Koteeswara Iyer, Ikaparam by Papanasam Sivan, Ninne Nammiti by Mysore Vasudevachar and Rama Rama by Swati Thirunal are well-known.
Suddhananda Bharati’s Kaganuthagilum is renowned among music-lovers. Othukadu Venkatakavi’s Asaindadum Mayil is famous in this raga.

IN CINEMA

Ulaginil Inbam Verundo from Ambikapathy, sung by M K Thyagaraja Bhagavathar, was one of the earliest songs in this raga. Ellam Inbamayam sung by M L Vasanthakumari is equally good. M S Viswanathan composed Poomudippal in Nenjirukkum Varai in this raga. It was sung by T M Soundararajan.

Ilayaraja’s Ananda Ragam from Panneer Pushpangal sung by Uma Ramanan was special. Thalattum Poongaatru from Gopura Vasalile captured the essence of this raga.

Also, Kaatrodu Kuzhalin Nadhame, sung by Chitra from the movie Kodai Mazhai, is in this raga.
