DMDK president Vijayakanth and his wife Premalatha with friends in the US.

Chennai: Putting an end to rumours of Vijayakanth’s health condition being critical, photos of the DMDK chief celebrating Christmas with friends in the United States were shared on his verified Twitter handle.

The photos show Vijayakanth and his wife and DMDK treasurer, Premalatha, sitting with friends in a posh residence with a decorated Christmas tree in the background indicating that the photo must have been taken recently.

Yesterday, Vijayakanth’s son, Vijaya Prabhakaran assured his father’s supporters that ‘Captain’ will return with a ‘gambeera kural‘ (majestic voice). He said this while speaking to reporters to voice his support for the protest by secondary grade teachers over alleged disparity in pay.

Rumours began spreading yesterday that Vijayakanth’s health had deteriorated in the US and he was under constant monitoring by doctors. Adding fuel to the fire, the mouthpieces of the DMDK repeatedly telecast news and posted tweets of Vijayakanth’s followers offering prayers in temples.

The photos released today have put an end to the rumours for now.
