Chennai: Officials of the Income-Tax Department are continuing raids for the second day at popular restaurants in the city.

On Thursday, I-T sleuths began raiding the offices and houses of leading retail restaurants such as Saravana Bhavan, Anjappar, Grand Sweets & Snacks and Hot Breads for discrepancies in declaring the income.

According to a highly-placed source, “The raids are being conducted after we found they were not disclosing their income. In 2007, two of these hotels did not declare their income correctly and the I-T had to do an investigation on them. Now, they are repeating the same thing. This morning, two teams have gone to Thanjavur and Kanchipuram and the rest of the teams are continuing with the raids in the city.”

Eight teams of Chennai I-T investigation wing were carrying out the searches.
