Kamal Haasan replies to Modi’s invitation for alliance with BJP

Chennai: “Though Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited us for an alliance with the BJP, it is for us to decide on it,” said actor and MNM president Kamal Haasan.

A couple of days ago, in an interview to a news agency, Modi said his party would welcome Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan if they were willing to join the alliance.

Addressing mediapersons at Chennai airport after returning from Dubai late last night, Kamal, said, “We will be holding a series of meetings in the next few days to take a call on contesting Tiruvarur by-poll. After consulting senior members of the party, we will decide on fielding a candidate for the by-election.”

Asked if there is any motive behind the Election Commission announcing by-election only for Tiruvarur, Kamal said though it has been announced only for Tiruvarur, we should be happy at least now they have announced it.

On the violence in Sabarimala after two women offered prayers a few days ago, he said, “I had already spoken a lot on this issue. The violence has been unleashed by right wing supporters.”

On the State government announcing Rs 1,000 as Pongal gift for all ration card-holders in Tamilnadu, the MNM leader said, “Actually they have to give us more. Let’s take whatever they give us.”

Asked about acting in Indian-2, the actor said, “Cinema is my profession and politics is my passion. I will speak politics in real life and not just in cinema.”
