Chennai: The Madras High Court today questioned whether it is the State Government or the Jallikattu Committee that would give compensation for those who die during Jallikattu events.
The Court has asked the government to respond on the issue before 18 January. The bull-taming sport in Palamedu and Alanganallur are scheduled to be held on 16 and 17 January, respectively.
Madurai Collector S Natarajan inspected the Jallikattu arena in these areas recently. After inspecting the arrangements, Nataraj said the district had constituted teams of officials to oversee the conduct of the event.
Ten teams from Health and Family Welfare Department consisting of a doctor and five nurses each and 12 teams of personnel from the Department of Animal Husbandry have been formed for the jallikattu events.
