Chennai: Three school girls who ran away from their homes at Vaniyambadi were rescued at Chennai Central this morning.

According to police, the girls were studying class 8 of a Higher Secondary School in New Town, Vaniyambadi.

On Thursday morning, on the pretext of going to school, the girls went to the railway station and took the Brindavan Express to Chennai. When they did not reach home by evening, their parents went to school and found that they did not attend the class.

The families subsequently lodged a complaint with the Vaniyambadi police. Three special teams were formed and they passed on the information to all railway stations. At 12.30 am, an Inspector of police who was on a routine check at the Central station premises found the girls sitting on platform 3.

They were rescued and handed over to the Childline. Police are yet to ascertain why the girls ran away from home. Childline reunited them with their families this morning.
