Chennai: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Egmore here today seized 500 kilograms of gutkha which arrived as a parcel from Delhi.
The police said, ĀWe seized 500 kilograms of gutkha which was kept at the parcel office. It had arrived by Thirukkural Express two days ago.
The RPF examined the parcel as a foul smell had enamated from it.Ā RPF Inspector, Egmore, Mohan said, ĀWe are yet to find out the details of the sender and the receiver. The parcel was sent from Delhi. It remains a mystery as to why the parcel was lying in the parcel office for two days.Ā
The banned tobacco was packed into eight bundles. The Food Safety Department will assess the worth of the contraband.
