Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami today said there is hidden political agenda behind the video which was released in connection with the Kodanadu estate yesterday.

Speaking to mediapersons outside the AIADMK headquarters at Royapettah here after holding a meeting with the party cadres, Palaniswami said the details said in the video are absolutely fake.

“The video was released with the aim of tarnishing former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s image and I strongly condemn it. These accuseds have gone to the court for 22 times, there they did not tell anything, but now they have released a video. This shows that they want to divert the case which is going to be taken up for hearing on 2 February. It will soon be clear that who is behind them,” he said.

He further said, “In the video, they have said that Jayalalithaa had collected documents from AIADMK cadre and kept them in the Kodanadu estate. But, she had never received any such documents from the party members.”

He added that a case has been registered in the Kodanadu issue and investigation is being carried out in a fair manner. Palaniswami also hit out at DMK president M K Stalin and said his Grama Sabha meetings are all a political drama.

“DMK is often filing one case or the other. They are not able to oppose us directly and are using such shortcuts,” he said. Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar yesterday said legal action will be taken against those who try to tarnish the image of the government.

Addressing mediapersons Friday, Jayakuamr also warned action against TV channels for telecasting the press conference held by former Tehelka editor Samuel Mathew. He said the mediahouses had brought disrepute to Palaniswami and the government by broadcasting unsusbstatiancted claims.

Earlier on Friday, Samuel Mathew released a documentary linking Palaniswami with a robbery attempt at Jayalalithaa’s Kodanadu estate in April 2017. The video showed Sayan, an accused in the case, claiming that his co-accused Kanakaraj, former driver of Jayalalithaa had been in touch with Palaniswami. Sayan is currently on bail.

Sayan alleges in the video that Kanakaraj told him that there was ‘Rs 2,000 crore cash and important documents in the estate just before Jayalalithaa’s death. He also claimed that Kanakaraj had asked him to hire people from outside Tamilnadu to steal documents from the estate and hand them over to Palaniswami, who Kanakaraj had allegedly met after he was sworn in as Chief Minister. Kanakaraj was killed in a road accident in Salem later.
