Chennai: A retired policeman’s family lost valuables to robbers who struck at their house Thursday in Madhavaram while they were away for Pongal holidays.
According to the police, Vijayan, a retired sub-inspector, and his wife Sarla, who was working as an administrative staff at the Commissioner’s office, Vepery, lived at B K M Colony, Madhavaram.
A week ago, the duo left for their native place in Kerala. But they were shocked when their neighbours informed them that the doors of their house were broken open.
Assistant Commissioner Ramalingam and Inspector Kannan, who visited the spot, found that the car parked outside their house was missing. Also, 48 sovereigns of gold kept in the bureau and Rs 10,000 cash were allegedly stolen from the house. The Madhavaram police are investigating the case.
