Parents do their best to offer their children the best possible education. They enrol them in schools hoping that their kids grow to become a responsible adult. But, education nowadays is extremely expensive.
Enter Sri Sathya Sai Seva Samithis, an organisation that educates children with values free of cost.
For the last 32 years, one of its centres – the Vadapalani Samithi – near Vadapalani Murugan Temple, has imparted several young children with valuable lessons through many of its activities.
A part of the Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations, Vadapalani Samithi conducts Bala Vikas classes for children from five years of age. The syllabus is designed in such a way that good manners are inculcated in the children through practical application.
One of the gurus explained to News Today regarding Bala Vikas classes. “We divide the students into three age groups. Each student is awarded a Sai diploma certificate and we also give prizes to those who do well,” she said.
The teachings cover education, spiritual knowledge and service. The organisation has taken steps to ensure that even its teachers are well-trained.
“At the samithi, we train one another,” explained the guru. She then narrated how each class is conducted. “We teach the students to respect elders. We focus on punctuality and cleanliness,” she pointed out.
To keep the children interested, all these values are taught through story-telling. “We tell stories of leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Abdul Kalam and we get our students involved with activities,” the guru said. The samithi conducts value-based classes in numerous schools.
