Eight killed in various mishaps


Chennai: Eight persons were killed in different road mishaps across the State since last night. Speedy driving was the said to be the reason for the accidents.

Two youngsters who were travelling on a two-wheeler hit a lamp post on Gurusamy Overbridge in Chetpet. While one died on the spot, the pillion succumbed to injuries in hospital. The deceased were identified as Abhishek (18) and Aakash (18). The two were returning from work, said police sources.

In another mishap, two motor cycles collided against each other near Tambaram last night. IN the mishap, one was killed on the spot, while the body of another was retrieved from bushes nearby.

Meanwhile, a speeding car hit a tree at Ayithampatti village near Ambur last last night. In the mishap, four persons travelling in the car died.

Three others were rushed to Government Hospital in Ambur. The deceased were identified as students of a college in Vaniyambadi.
