National-award winning filmmaker Ram’s film – Peranbu, featuring Malayalam star Mammootty in the lead role is scheduled for release 1 February.
The movie has already won critical acclaim by getting featured in many international film festivals. Speaking to the press about the movie, Ram said, “We made the film and decided to send it to film festivals. Now the movie is set to release in Tamil. The film festival version is a bit different from the theatrical version.”
On casting Mammootty in the lead role, Ram said “Mammootty is not new to Tamil cinema and he has a good profit margin even though he hasn’t done any Tamil films in the last ten years. For the role of Amudhan, I wanted a matured and experienced artist who can convey emotions well. I saw Mammootty’s previous movies like Sukrutham, Amaram and wanted an actor like him to do the role.”
He also said that the story of Peranbu was ready even before Katradhu Thamizh. “However, I narrated the script to him only in 2015. He was mightily impressed and agreed to do the film.”
Apart from Mammootty, Peranbu features Baby Sadhana, Anjali, Livingston and transgender Anjali Ameer in the cast. Director Ram’s national-award-winning film, Thangameengal also dealt with a father-daughter relationship and Peranbu too shows the relationship between a father and daughter.
On the difference between the two films, he said, “In Peranbu, the father-daughter relationship is secondary. It is more about the life of a spastic child and the struggles the child’s father faces. Everyone has a problem in their life and will have to go through a lot of emotions. Despite that, life is always beautiful and the film tries to tell this through the characterisation of Amudhan, who realises it after taking care of his spastic child. This movie will create a sense of calmness and peace after watching the film.”
The music for the film is composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja and is bankrolled by PL Thenappan under his banner Sri Rajalakshmi Films.
