OPS must have performed yagna to escape from case: Stalin

Karur: Tamilnadu Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam was continued to be targeted for allegedly conducting yagna at his office in the Secretariat. Stalin on Tuesday said that he must have performed the havan to escape from a case in the Supreme Court.

The DMK President had on Sunday claimed it might have been conducted to get the Chief Minister’s post.

Taking part in a Gram Sabha meeting in Karur, the DMK chief said along with the coming Lok Sabha elections, the Assembly polls may also be held. He said that the case of 11 MLAs including Panneerselvam is hanging in the balance in the Supreme Court and so he must have performed the yagna at Fort St George to escape it.

In February 2017, the DMK had moved the Supreme Court to direct the Tamilnadu Assembly Speaker P Dhanapal to disqualify Panneerselvam and 10 other AIADMK MLAs for voting against the confidence motion moved by Chief Minister K Palaniswami.

Stalin stated the Fort St. George was not the Deputy Chief Minister’s personal property and that it was functioning on taxpayers’ money.

Responding to his remarks, Senior AIADMK leader D Jayakumar, said that smoke from a frankincense or camphor does not amount to a yagna. He asked what is wrong in praying to God. Jayakumar further added that Tamilnadu people may question such childish acts by leaders. Earlier Jayakumar had denied Stalin’s claims as unauthentic and a rumour.
