Chennai: Right from childhood, one should cultivate the habit of learning and developing new activities whether in academics or sports, said Additional Director General of Police, Special Task Force, Tamilnadu, Sandeep Rai Rathore.

Inaugurating a new synthetic basket ball court at Ramakrishna Mission Matriculation Higher Secondary School, T Nagar, Wednesday, he listed out how he took up various academic courses and sports in his career that helped him in a big way in Police Department.
He also advised the students present to take both academics and sports on equal parameters to come up good in their career.

Speaking on the occasion, Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama secretary Swami Padmasthananda said, “Swami Vivekananda insisted youngsters to take up sports to be fit enough to face and overcome challenges.”

“The new court inaugurated on the birth anniversary of great Indian leader Nethaji Subhash Chandra Bose will be useful to around 3,500 boys of Ramakrishna Mission Schools to learn and practice basket ball,” the Swamiji said.

The basket ball court built at a cost of around Rs 12 lakh was sponsored by Rotary Club of Madras East, a press release said.
Rotary Club’s senior officials including its district governor Babu Peram participated.

The event also saw honouring of veteran basket ball player and former secretary of Chennai District Basket ball Association S S Nissar.  Senior basket ball player Meenakshi Sundaram was also present. An exhibition match was conducted at the new court and a team from AVM Rajeswari School won the match.
