Chennai: While Madipakkam has received many amenities over the years, public transport is not one that can be taken as a development. Residents state that it has to be taken with a pinch of salt.

Even in the busy Koot Road which has not one but three bus stands, residents state there are not many buses operated. Due to this, they say that in most cases, to reach a destination, they have to catch two different buses due to inadequate number of buses.

Speaking to News Today member of Balaiah Garden Thilakar Avenue Residential Welfare Association, B Srikumar, said, ‘A redressal meeting was held at the Revenue Divisional Office, Guindy, on 28 December in which Chennai Collector also participated. On behalf of our association, we submitted a representation on long pending issues and stressed the need to bring direct bus services from Velacheri to St Thomas Mount covering Kaiveli, Ram Nagar, Sadhasiva Nagar, Balaiah Garden, Ponniamman Koil and Koot Road.’

‘Neighbourhood residents are facing hassle due to the absence of a direct bus service to St Thomas Mount, as they have to take at least two buses at present. Further, commuters need a direct bus to Sholinganallur from Madipakkam Bus Terminus as most of our Revenue and Consumer Department Offices are located in Sholinganallur. As of now, there is no direct bus to that locality and Tambaram. It is time residents received better services,’ he added.

It must be noted that small bus services covering Moovarasampet, Keelkattalai, Pazhavanthangal and Alandur Metro station introduced by then Chief Minister Jayalalithaa were also halted a few months ago.
