Chennai: Reliance Retail’s JioPhone topped the overall Indian market across all handset types and helped the country’s feature phone shipments grow faster than smartphones for the first time, Counterpoint Technology Market Research has said.
JioPhone had a 21 per cent share of the overall handset market and commanded 38 per cent of the feature phone segment, which grew 11 per cent in 2018. However, India’s smartphone market expanded 10 per cent in 2018 to become the fastest-growing in the world.
“This is the first time the feature phone market grew faster than smartphones. India remains the largest market in terms of global feature phone volumes,” said associate director, Counterpoint, Tarun Pathak.
