Chennai: A schoolgirl lost her life after coming under the wheels of an MTC Bus this morning at Pammal Nalla Thambi Road.
According to the police, the victim, Aliya Begum (13), was riding pillion on a two-wheeler with her father Ajmad. She had missed the MTC bus to her school at Teynampet. Aliya studied in a matriculation school run by SIET, Teynampet.
She lived in Anakaputhur, Chrompet, and Ajmad worked at a shop in the neighbourhood.
At 7.50 am, Ajmad was riding fast to catch a mini-bus when another two-wheeler came from the opposite direction and he hit the brakes. He lost control and the vehicle skidded. Aliya fell on the road and the rear wheel of the bus ran over her.
Ajmad escaped in the accident.
The police, who arrived at the spot, sent her body to Chrompet Government Hospital. The police arrested Arumugham, the driver of the bus, and said, “If the driver had applied the brake, the girl’s life could have been saved.”
