Sources from the Chennai Corporation said that Marina beach is all set to receive additional LED floodlights at 15 strategic locations.
According to reports, the floodlights will help about 3.1 km stretch along the beach with better illumination. Officials said the floodlights will have a height of about 30 meters and 1,000 watts each.
Many residents living near the beach and street vendors have consistently voiced the need for installing additional lights.
This project will soon improve the visibility of dimly-lit spots where crime is often reported. The corporations officials also noted that they have invited bids for the project which is estimated to cost about Rs 43 lakh.
This project will also help street vendors who do business along the beach, as better lighting conditions will improve their chances of improving their business.
