New Delhi: Interim Finance Minister Piyush Goyal said, while tabling the Interim Union Budget today that the government is committed to eliminate black money.
He said demonetisation and other schemes have brought Rs. 1,36,000 crores of cash to banks. More than one crore people filed income tax returns post demonetisation
In action against black money, as many as 338000 shell companies have been detected and directors disqualified, he added.
Thanking the honest tax payers, Goyal said the direct tax collection has been increased substantially.
GST has resulted in increased tax base, increased collection and made country a one market nation, he added. He also lauds the functioning of the GST Council where all State Finance Ministers are a part of. Over 90 per cent of GST filers will be allowed to file it on a quarterly basis.
The GST collection for January is estimated at Rs 1.03 lakh crore, Goyal said. Nearly 45 crore Jan Dhan accounts were opened in the last four years, he informed.
