Safety has become a cause of concern for the motorists who use the parking space on the east side of the Tambaram Railway Station.
Sources said nine bikes were stolen on a single day from the parking lot. There were already several complaints that the parking spaces in the Railway Station does not have proper shelter and even the employees in the parking lot do not take proper care of the vehicles.
A few users also alleged that many a times, the spare parts and petrol in their bikes went missing in the parking lot and there was no proper response from the contractors.
The parking space in East Tambaram has a capacity to accommodate around 2,000 bikes and most of them are monthly pass users. On 30 January, 9 bikes more than Rs one lakh each were stolen.
A victim, on condition of anonymity said when he asked about his lost bike, the incharge said the contract has expired in December.
“If the contract has expired in December, why did they have to issue monthly passes for January. To make things worse, when we complained about the incident to the Railway Police and Tambaram Police, they did not take it seriously,” he said.
He said, he bought the bike after saving money from his monthly expenses. “I need the bike for my job and now it is gone. There are CCTVs in the parking lot, but the contractors say that it is not working. We do not know what to do now,” he said with tears.
