Chennai: Forest department officials today said they are not taking any steps to chase Chinna Thambi into the forest area now as the jumbo is currently roaming in residential areas near Krishnapuram, in Udumalpet.
Sources said the officials will monitor and wait till Chinna Thambi goes to the forest area on its own.
The jumbo, which already has the support of the people, earned more fans when it had a brief ‘playtime’ with Khaleel, the kumki elephant brought to the area. Both the elephants locked trunks and were found playing.
It was initially said the government was planning to train Chinna Thambi as a kumki elephant. Following this, a petition was filed in court by an animal activist.
When the case came up for hearing, the government advocate said there were no plans to make Chinna Thambi a kumki.
