Tamilnadu Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar

Chennai: In response to the tussle between the Centre and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the AIADMK-led Tamilnadu government on Monday said CBI has power to probe cases but it has to adopt a certain framework for that.

According to reports, Tamilnadu Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar yesterday said the CBI was doing its job and it has power to probe any case or anyone. But it has to adopt a certain framework in order to do so. “There are provisions in the Constitution for everyone. If everyone functions within that framework of authority, there is no problem. Whoever violates it, it is wrong,” he told reporters.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s ‘save the constitution’ dharna entered day 3 in Kolkata today. She sat on a sit-in protest after a CBI team made a failed bid to question city Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar in connection with Saradha and Rose Valley chit fund scam cases.

Meanwhile, leaders of opposition parties have come out in support of the Banerjee’s dharna. From Tamilnadu, DMK president MK Stalin tweeted: “The independence of every institution has been compromised under this fascist BJP Government. I stand with @MamataOfficial Didi in her fight to protect the federal structure of this country and to save democracy.#SaveDemocracy.”
