Chennai: After reports emerged that a section of Chennai Metro Rail Ltd’s (CMRL’s) employees are planning to undergo a strike, the department has now clarified that it’s ready to face it and will decide on actions if pushed further.
A couple of days ago, sources informed that over 300 permanent employees of CMRL are planning an indefinite strike if the management fails to pay heed to their demands in 15 days. The section of employees reportedly belong to CMRL Employees Union. The employees allege that they are facing issues due to inadequate strength, outsourcing work, technical glitches arising due to employment of untrained contract workers, no extra pay for overtime and night shifts and discrimination in salary among others.
Sources said the employees are planning to meet the Labour Commissioner and Industries Minister to voice their problems and about the safety aspects of the functioning of the trains.
Speaking to News Today, CMRL spokesperson, said action will be taken, if there is any strike.
