Chennai: Ferit Cricket Bash, an amateur cricket league, was launched by former Sri Lanka cricketer Muttiah Muralidaran in Chennai, yesterday.
Ferit Cricket Bash (FCB) is a new 15-over a side league that aims to cater to the amateur talentall over the country. It will be held in July and August this year.
Former and current international players such as Muttiah Muralitharan, Chris Gayle, Zaheer Khan and Praveen Kumar have been roped in as mentors. Former Ranji Trophy cricketers too will
oversee the trial across various cities in India.
Launching the league in the city, Muttiah Muralitharan said, “India has something in its soil to develop a fine talent in cricket. I am glad to mentor such young talent of the nation under FCB’s initiative for the country. FCB is providing a great new platform. Not everyone who loves to play cricket gets to represent their State or their country. This is a good platform for them to realise their dream,” said Muralitharan, one of the league’s mentors.
All candidates who are 15 years or above are eligible to register for phase one, which is already underway in a few cities. 14 candidates will be shortlisted from each centre and they will get to represent their city in the final phase. 16 teams will vie for the title and each of the players who make it to those squads will receive a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh.
