New York: Despite unleashing 11 aces qualifier Ramkumar Ramanathan of India lost to Jason Jung of Taipei 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 in the men’s singles first round match of the $ 694,995 ATP Challenger (New York Open) Tennis Tournament in New York on Tuesday.

The match lasted one hour and 50 minutes. Ramanathan lost the first set at 6-3 after he was broken in the eighth game. However, Ramanathan bounced back by winning the second set at 6-3, after taking a 3-0 lead. Jung, who resides in Torrance, California, raced to a 6-1 verdict in the third and deciding set.

Ramanathan, who committed four double faults, won 74 per cent points (35/47) on first service and 37 per cent points (10/27) on the second service. He could win only one break points out of 10.

Jung scored three aces and committed two double faults. His first service was 74 per cent in and won 64 per cent points (45/70) on first service and 67 per cent points (16/24) on second service. He saved nine out of 10 break points and won three break points out of five.

In a separate tournament, top seed Indian Prajnesh Gunneswaran was upset by JC Aragone in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 in the second round of the $ 54,160 Bangkok Open. The match lasted 57 minutes.

Aragone scored 80 per cent points (24/30) on first service and 53 per cent (10/19) on second service. He saved two out of three break points and won 5 out of 6 break points.

Gunneswaran won 57 per cent points 912/21) on first service and 40 per cent points (10/25) on second service. He saved one out of six break points and won one out of three break points. In a first round match, Sashi Kumar Kukund of India could win one game each in two sets as Korean Soonwoo Kwon won 6-1, 6-1 in 52 minutes.
