Indian Cricketer Murali Vijay presenting a prize to a winner of marathon held as part of RIVIERA-19 at VIT in Vellore, Thursday. VIT vice-president Sekar Viswanathan, Vice-Chancellor Anand A Samuel are among those present.

Chennai: Indian Cricketer Murali Vijay presided over VIT’s RIVIERA-19 International Sports and Cultural Carnival and stated that Indian cricket team will win the World Cup this year and that there is no match for them.

The annual event that started Thursday is set to take place till 17 February. The four-day event will see 129 programmes take place with 16 sports events taking place. The token prize for winners is Rs 20 lakh and students will also be presented books and certificates.

After giving away prizes to winners of the marathon that was conducted prior to the carnival, Murali Vijay said, “Education and sports are essential to life. Sports brings up confidence in a person. Sportspersons must overcome all hurdles in life.”

“No cricket team can match India. The Indian team will win this year’s World Cup,” Murali added.
The 9.9 km marathon was flagged off by VIT vice-president Sekar Viswanathan and saw 4,400 students take part.
