“Boomerang will portray Atharvaa in a new shade. It would be a movie to reckon with in his career,” says director R Kannan.
The film is all set for release 1 March. Petta-fame Megha Akash, RJ Balaji, Sathish and Meyadha Maan-fame Indhuja are part of the cast.
Bankrolled by Kannan himself, the movie would be out in maximum screens.
Speaking about Boomerang, Kannan, says, “Boomerang was an instrument invented by the Tamils in 19th century. It will go attack enemies and return to the person who launched it. My movie conveys a strong message similar to boomerang: whatever we do, the result of our act will comeback to us.”
Excerpts from his interview:
Q: Tell us about the story of Boomerang.
A: It is about a youngster from a village who completes engineering and joins an IT firm. After getting work done from him and his team, the company throws them out of the job. Apparently agitated, the protagonist comes up with a plan to teach them a lesson. We have spoken about agriculture, organic farming and need to preserve water bodies.
Q: How was it to work with Atharvaa?
A: His life has changed a lot after he acted in Bala’s Paradesi. He is hardworking and committed. He acted as hero in my earlier venture, Ivan Thanthiran. It is a pleasure to work with him. Boomerang will be a milestone movie in his career. He loved the story so much that he agreed to tonsure his head for one of his get-ups.
Q: On choosing Mega Akash as heroine?
A: She impressed everyone with her performance in Rajini-starrer Petta. She plays a Chennai girl, who completed VisCom and wants to become a filmmaker. Her comedy scenes with ‘Mottai’ Rajendran will bring the roof down. Ravi Maria and Ai-fame Upen Patel are also in the cast.
Q: Why did you opt for Radhan as music composer?
A: I was impressed with his work in Arjun Reddy. He has come up with five songs. There is a mass song – Desamae Kan Muzhichuko – thatĀ we shot with 1,000 junior artistes in Theni, using five cameras. It would be a major highlight of the film.
Q: How do you feel about turning producer?
A: It is difficult to do two jobs at the same time. But being a producer, the director in me gets enough liberties to shoot what he wants. There is creative freedom. I am also producing another movie with Atharvaa in the lead again.
