9 killed as truck rams into marriage procession in Rajasthan


Jaipur: Nine people, including four children, were killed in Pratapgarh district, Rajasthan, when a speeding truck mowed down a marriage procession yesterday. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has expressed condolences with the families of those killed in the accident.

According to reports, the truck was on its way to Banswara from Nimbahera when the accident happened on National Highway-113 yesterday night. Nineteen people were injured in the incident. The nine of the deceased have been identified as Daulatram (60), Bharat (30), Shubham (5), Chotu (5), Dilip (11), Arjun (15), Ishu (19), Ramesh (30) and Karan (28), said media reports.

Rs 50,000 has been announced as compensation to the family members of the deceased, said media reports. In the aftermath of the tragic incident, many people blocked the road demanding higher compensation for families of the deceased. Traffic was disrupted on the highway today for nearly two hours.

The bodies were handed over to family members after post-mortem and a case registered against the truck driver and the police have tracked down the absconding truck driver, said official report.
