Kolkata: In the aftermath of the Pulwama attack, a Kashmiri doctor living in Kolkata claimed he was threatened of dire consequences if he continued to stay in the city with his family and he is now considering leaving the State.

The doctor, who has been living in Kolkata for the last 22 years, said that his daughters, aged nine and seven, faced ostracism in their school and neighbourhood.

He claimed that on 15 February, a day after the attack, some men gathered outside his residence and threatened to harm his daughters, unless he returned to Pakistan.

According to media reports, Ananya Chakraborti, Chairperson of the West Bengal State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, has assured all help to the family. She has reportedly spoken to the school’s authorities to ensure the children’s safety.

“We have assured all support. But this is an alarming situation which is being deliberately created ahead of the elections, with the sole aim of polarisation,” she said.

On 14 February, 40 CRPF personnel were killed in one of the deadliest terror attacks in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir, for which Jaish-e-Mohammed terror group has claimed responsibility.
