As part of the 30th Road Safety Week from 4 to 9 February, several awareness campaigns were held in Chennai.
According to a press release from the Regional Transport Office, a road and fire safety awareness programme, was conducted at Chennai Higher Secondary School, Thiruvalluvar Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur, recently.
Some of the participants were, Regional Transport Officer Yuvaraj, Motor Vehicles Inspectors Sundararaj and Eswaran and Fire Service Station Officer Ravichandran and his team. The officials addressed 300 students of the school.
In another event conducted by the city traffic police, pamphlets and guides were distributed to the public, at Besant Nagar beach by the policemen.
A sand sculpture show was held at Elliot’s Beach, Besant Nagar, on Sunday. Six sand models conveying the importance of seat belts while driving cars, and the need to wear helmets while riding two-wheelers, were made.
These sculptures created by professor A Vasanthan and his students from ICAT Design and Media College, also conveyed the dangers of over-speeding.
Apart from this, there were also mime performances with special characters such as Spider-man to convey a road safety message.
