Chennai: Researches prove that the rate of cardiac arrest after undergoing a surgery to be up to 8 per cent with a variable chance of survival and extreme morbidity in many survivors.
To meet the requirements, Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Cardiac Surgery Advanced Life Support (CALS) UK Team to offer one-day advanced life support course.
According to a press release, “The CALS protocol is shown to improve the outcomes in such patients by up to 80 per cent. It is endorsed by European Association of Cardiothoracic Surgeons (EACTS), Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS), European Resuscitation Council (ERC) and International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR).”
The course is stated to be a combination of didactic lessons and practical teachings. Eminent doctors like cardiac surgeon Dr Vincenzo Giordano from Edingurgh and intensivist Dr Kiran Salaunkey from Cambridge will conduct the course.
