Chennai: Goli Soda founder Sruti Harihara Subramanian, international squash player Dipika Pallikal Karthik and classical violinist Charumathi Raghuraman emerged winners of the MOP Yuva Sammaan 2019 Awards in the categories entrepreneurship, sports and performing arts.
The winners were felicitated with a citation and a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh each at a ceremony at MOP Vaishnav College for Women on Saturday.
Naturals salon chain founder, C K Kumaravel, competitive sailor, Dr Rohini Rau, and classical dancer, Priyadarshini Govind, gave away the awards in the three categories.
“Dream big, start small and win big,” said Kumaravel in his address capturing the journey of the awardees as well as the other high-achievers on the nominee list.
College principal Lalitha Balakrishnan and secretary Manoj Kumar Sonthalia introduced the jury members: Global Adjustments founder Ranjini Manian, UNESCO senior consultant S Venkataraman, Sastra University Vice-Chancellor S Vaidhyasubramaniam and Rajalakshmi Engineering College co-founder / chairperson Thangam Meganathan.
Of the 35 applicants, the jury members shortlisted the final nominees and selected the awardees taking into consideration the information supplied by the applicants. MOP Yuva Sammaan is conferred upon young women achievers every year to encourage them to develop a sense of responsibility to the community and thus to improve their own personal potential as good citizens.
In the inaugural edition instituted in the silver jubilee year of the college, 2017-18, the MOP Yuva Sammaan was conferred upon social entrepreneur Red Elephant Foundation founder Kirthi Jayakumar, Carnatic vocalist, K Dharini, and national sabre fencer, C A Bhavani Devi.
