Chennai: The Indian Railways’ catering service provider, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has recently taken measures to improvise the quality of food it serves to its passengers.

Yesterday, the Railway Minister, Piyush Goyal launched the website, Rail Drishti Dashboard (www.raildrishti.cris.org.in) which is a portal that offers internet users various informations regarding trains, railway stations, tickets sold. The portal also gives the ability for the public to watch live feed from IRCTC kitchens across the country.

Speaking to News Today about the live kitchen feed, a senior IRCTC official in Chennai said, “The Railway Board has selected a list of cities where kitchens operated by IRCTC can be viewed live by passengers. This is the first phase of an experimental project. Soon cities that come under the Southern Railway division will also be added.”

He said the move was taken forward to show the cleanliness of the food served. Currently, the IRCTC kitchens under live feed ability are at Ahmedabad, Jhansi, Kota, Mumbai, Noida, Pune, Vijayawada, among others.

IRCTC takes step to improve quality
IRCTC recently requested passengers to use only its authorised app, the IRCTC e-catering app or its online website, www.ecatering.irctc.co.in. According to sources, many rail commuters order their food by using unauthorised apps like Travel Khana and Rail Yatra. Senior IRCTC officials had warned that that they do not hold responsible for the food’s quality ordered from such apps.

Rail Drishti features
Apart from live feed footage of kitchen, the Rail Drishti website will also offer users about the income earned by railways in a day to yearly basis. It will also show achievements of the railways and data related to freight trains. Users can observe the condition of various facilities and lodge complaints on the portal.

According to reports, the information on the website offers services under 15 categories which includes train tracking and 360-degree virtual tour of train routes.
