It is yet another feather in Shreya Vasudevan’s cap. A Bharathanatyam dancer, she was recently felicitated with the title ‘Kalai Ilamani’ by the Ministry for Arts and Cultural Development, during a function hosted by the Tamilnadu government on 13 February, for her contributions in the field.
A few months ago, the 13-year-old had also bagged the title of ‘Abhinaya Thilagam’, during her arangetram concert.
In a chat with this paper, she says, “I have been learning dance right from my second grade.”
Stating that she is the first in her family to practice the form, Shreya says, “I have classes everyday. Sometimes, I also have to get up early in the morning for this.”

The youngster has not just performed in temples, but also at many prominent stages like the Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanam (TTD), among other group performances.
Throughout the interview, Shreya credits her guru, J Suryanarayanamurthy and her parents for encouraging her to get into dancing. “My family has always been supportive. I am grateful to them,” she signs off.
