CMRL receives Kalam Innovation in Governance Award

Chennai: Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL) has bagged Kalam Innovation in Governance Award (KIGA) during the third edition of Dr A P J Abdul Kalam Memorial Summit on Innovation in Governance 2019 conducted by Kalam Centre in New Delhi, recently.

The award was presented by NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Rajiv Kumar to CMRL Managing Director Pankaj Kumar Bansal, and CGM Underground Vijay Kumar Singh.

It was given to recognise CMRL’s vision and governance for creating world-class passenger amenities and infrastructure. It was a step towards recognising the best practices and models of governance for excellent and efficient implementation of programmers and services delivery.

CMRL’s expertise in energy saving technologies, green initiatives in phase one and notably the organisation’s station optimisation models implanted in phase one extension were appreciated by the experts, a press release said.

CMRL’s model for smaller stations for future phase two was also highly commended. Overall, the award recognised CMRL’s initiatives and governance practices that have ability to adapt to future challenges and transform the urban infrastructure as part of upcoming phase two project, it said.

Last year, CMRL received an award from Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) for Egmore underground metro station, which got platinum ratings for adopting green building concept.

The headquarters and the maintenance depot of CMRL was also awarded gold rating under Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and CMRL bagged the SKOCH Order of Merit for its efforts in developing a mass transit system on a par with international standards.
