Kochi: Kerala Customs Commissioner Sumit Kumar yesterday suspended a cadre of the havildar, CX Francis, following his arrest on charges of helping a smugger in a bid to smuggle gold worth nearly Rs one crore at the Cochin international airport.
According to reports, yesterday Francis Francis was supposedly not on duty and was put under the scanner of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence after being found around the airport on his day-off.
He was caught after he attempted to leave the airport allegedly with three gold bars. The bars weighed one kg each. A release said, he had received the bars from a passenger Adnan Khalid who arrived from a Gulf country. The passenger was also arrested.
