Chennai: The Integral Coach Factory (ICF) officials have revealed that its production rate has gone higher, compared to last year.
According to data shared by senior ICF officials, as of the financial year 2018-19, about 2,919 coaches were manufactured when compared to 2,085 coaches and 1,976 coaches manufactured during the same period in 2018 and 2017 respectively.
Speaking to News Today, a senior ICF official said, “This year we aim to manufacture over 3,200 coaches.” It may be noted ICF has started expanding its factory which will help to raise its production rate.
ICF officials also revealed that until 28 February this year, they had built a record number of 946 self-propelled type of coaches for Electric 
Multiple Unit (EMU), Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DEMU) and Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) trains.
Officials said they manufactured a special variant of MEMU train for the Northern Railway division equipped with under slung electrics and also built an air-conditioned EMU with underslung electrics for the Mumbai Suburban Railways. They added that production of such type of coaches were high in a year. The earlier record production of self-propelled type of coaches was 852 coaches in 2016-17.
