Compound wall around Sembakkam UPHC has reached the stage of completion.

Work for the construction of the compound around the Urban Public Health Centre (UPHC) in Sembakkam near Alavattamman temple, Chennai, is nearing completion.

It may be noted that the health centre that caters to the health needs of residents in the locality, was constructed in a land measuring 50 cents and was built at a cost of Rs 42 lakh.

On an average, close to 200 patients are benefited by this facility. However, since the lack of a proper compound wall in the premises, was a major cause for concern, Minister C Vijayabaskar recently announced that the said facility at a cost of Rs 18 lakh, will be constructed around the hospital.

Speaking to News Today, former Sembakkam Municipality Chairman G Santhakumar, under whom the resolution for the construction of the UPHC was passed, said that he was happy with the move.

“The resolution to construct the health centre was passed by the Councillors back then, based on the request of the residents. We identified the land for constructing the hospital and the 50 cents near the Alavattaman temple was identified and allotted. Following the construction of the building, residents requested for a compound wall and we tried to get one. Now we are glad that this has also been sanctioned and is nearing completion,” he said.
