2019 general elections: DMDK top brass holding crucial meeting on alliance

Chennai: On a crucial day, the DMDK leaders have gone into a huddle at the party headquarters in Koyambedu to decide on the future course of action.

It is said Vijayakanth would be attending the meeting along with his wife and party treasurer Premalatha and deputy general secretary L K Sudish.

The party has been prevaricating on joining an alliance for the upcoming 2019 general elections. As it seemed undecided, there have been wild rumours that it would join the AIADMK alliance, DMK alliance or go it alone.

Unofficially, there seemed to be some misgiving on the part of the DMDK on the number of seats it would get in any alliance. It was said the party demanded at least one seat more than the PMK to join the AIADMK alliance and that this was the sticking point in the talks.

With Modi arriving in Chennai to address a political rally – the first one after stitching together the alliance with the AIADMK – there is an urgency for the DMDK to decide on its way forward.

It is said the leaders of all the other alliance partners of the AIADMK – PMK, KMDK, New Justice Party – will be present on the stage along with Modi this evening.
