Chennai: Actress and famous comedienne Kovai Sarala today joined the Makkal Needhi Maiam in the presence of its founder Kamal Haasan.

Actress Sripriya is already one of the prominent leaders of the party.

NOT FOR FAMILY

Kamal Haasan has said neither his daughter nor a brother-in-law would take over the party after his time.

It was an obvious dig at the DMK and the DMDK. The DMK is being led by M K Stalin, the son of late party president M Karunanidhi. The prominent face of DMDK now is L K Sudish, its deputy general secretary and brother-in-law of party leader Vijayakanth.

Kamal has been critical of the Dravidian parties of Tamilnadu and pulls no punches while criticising them. He has openly said he would not ally with the AIADMK or DMK as he finds them to be corrupt,  nor the BJP, as he calls it communal.

The party has started issuing applications for the upcoming general elections and has invited even the general public to apply as it has decided to go it alone.
