Vellore: “The number of faculty in the Chemistry Department of Vellore Institute of Technology surpasses the strength even in IITs,” said Director of Indian Institute of Science, Education and Research – Kolkatta, professor Sourav Pal at the inauguration of the international conference on Chemical Sciences and Nanomaterials at VIT recently.

Professor Pal said ‘Chemistry occupies a very important place in the sphere of production and it faces a lot of challenges too. The world is now at a juncture where it was important to arrive at guidelines to face challenges in the areas of chemical industry and renewable fuels.’
VIT Vice-Chancellor Anand A Samuel announced that the Department of Chemistry stood at the world QS ranking no 555.

He added that VIT occupies the number one place in terms of the number of research papers submitted among all Indian educational institutions, surpassing even IITs, NITs and other Central and State-funded premier institutions.

Over 400 delegates, including young researchers, academicians, and experts from United States, France, South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan in addition to the host nation India took part in the three-day conference. Among those present during the inaugural session were conference organising secrataries A Sheela and G Thirumanavelan, conference convenor R Vijayaraghavan, a professor from CNRS France Pierre H Dixneuf, School of Advanced Sciences dean A Mary Saral and Dr S Rajasekhara Reddy.
