After more than three years since the December 2015 deluge, Corporation has finally started construction of the major underground drainage (UGD) on Pallavaram-Thoraipakkam Radial Road.
It is being done to divert water from all the waterbodies in Madipakkam and the surrounding areas to Pallikaranai marshland thereby to discharge into the Bay of Bengal.
“While we suffered greatly during 2015 floods and Vardah cyclone, we thankfully escaped last year due to the lack of heavy rainfall. But officials shouldn’t take that for granted and delay the construction work as it’s going on for more than three months now. We want quick completion at least in two months so that, by June, it starts sending excess water to the marshlands,” said Ravi Chandran who resides along the stretch.
