Pollachi sexual assault case: Vasan for stringent punishment like death sentence

Chennai: Protests against the Pollachi sexual assault accused are snowballing, with Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) president G K Vasan calling for stringent punishment like death sentence.

Speaking to mediapersons here today, Vasan termed as unfortunate the sexual assault incidents in Pollachi. He said the only to ensure that such incidents do not repeat would be to award stringent punishment. He suggested even death sentence for the four accused.

He welcomed the Tamilnadu government deciding to hand over the investigation in the case to the CBI.

In a related development a video has surfaced showing the relatives of the victim beating two of the youngsters black and blue, all the while accusing them of filming the assault.

Another audio clip, claimed to be from the girl who complained against the four accused, has also gone viral. In the audio clip, the girl is heard condemning politicising the issue. She says it was Deputy Speaker Pollachi Jayaraman who came forward to help her register a case and charges that other parties showed interest in the case after elections were announced.

She said leaders interfering in the issue was causing them great pain and almost pushing the family to the brink of suicide.
