Chennai: Amid much expectations and brief delay, DMK president M K Stalin today announced the constituencies from which his party and the alliance parties will contest in the Lok Sabha constituencies. Addressing mediapersons at Anna Arivalayam, Stalin said their coalition will be called as Secular Progressive Alliance.

“DMK along with its friendly parties have been raising together for several issues in the State for the past few years and we are happy that we have come to form an alliance now,” he said.

He further said that the candidates list of the DMK will be announced on 17 March and added that the alliance parties will be announcing their candidates in the coming days as well.

Stalin added that the candidates for the by-elections will also be announced along with the Lok Sabha candidate list. He also reiterated that MDMK will be given a Rajya Sabha seat.

“The election manifesto of DMK is getting ready and is in its final stages. It will be formally released in four to five days,” he said. Leaders of the alliance parties were also present on the occasion.

Earlier in the day TNCC president K S Alagiri said the candidates list of the party will be announced in two three days.

The list was released today after Stalin held a meeting with senior party leaders to finalise the identification of constituencies to the alliance parties for the Lok Sabha elections yesterday. The meeting was held at the party office in Arivalayam in which T R Baalu, A Raja and Ponmudi were present.

Soon after Stalin announced the constituencies list today, IUML announced Nawaz Gani as its candidate.
