
Thiruvananthapuram: Southern Air Command and Military Intelligence are on high alert after a drone was sighted at several places yesterday.
Early morning yesterday, the drone was reportedly sighted at the airport, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre and nearby Kovalam beach. Following the incident, the Airport, Pangode Military camp and other security installations in the city have been put on high alert.
A defence spokesperson has reportedly stated that the sighting was in civilian area and they are not intervening in the current situation but monitoring it. He also added that the Southern Air Command and Military Intelligence are always on high alert.
A night patrolling group of Kerala police sighted the drone at Kovalam beach and searched the area for its operators. As it started flying towards the north, where the airport is located. The team informed the airport authorities about it.
Later, the CISF team at Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre found the drone flying there and informed the authorities concerned but the visuals of the drone was not available in any of the security cameras installed.
A top police official suggested that the drone might have been operated by some locals and it was flying on a low altitude to evade radars.
