Thirumangalam passengers 2nd highest users of Metro feeder service

Passengers exiting and entering the Thirumangalam Metro station were the second highest users of the Share Auto service according to the latest data released by CMRL.

Chennai Metro Rail Ltd’s (CMRL’s) initiative of providing last-mile connectivity has turned out to be an even greater success in February as 38,642 passengers have used the department’s feeder services in the month. Not only that CMRL’s education trip initiative has also found greater reception in February as 2,528 students got benefitted in the month

In our neighbourhood, a 7,610 passenger from Thirumangalam Metro station and 2,409 passengers from Koyambedu metro stations have made use of the Share Auto facility. However, compared to this, the number of people using share taxi service was less even though the prices are just Rs 5 higher than share autos. CMRL found that 1,414 passengers (Koyambedu Metro) and 621 passengers (Anna Nagar East metro) have used the used the share taxis.

CMRL has been plying share autos and share taxis at select Metro stations on a trial basis since 11 August 2018. A total of seven Metro stations were identified for share auto feeder service where the vehicles are running at a flat tariff of Rs 5. Similarly, share taxi feeder services were planned for six Metro stations and they are now covering 3 km radius with flat tariff of Rs 10.

CMRL spokesperson said, “A total of 38,642 passengers have utilised share auto and share taxi facilities in February. Of this, 6,052 passengers utilised share taxis while a total of 32,590 passengers utilised share autos. A total of 2,16,566 passengers have availed the services between 11 August 2018 and 28 February 2019.”
