A new platform set up by the authorities atMambalam Railway Station, is garnering praise from one-and-all.
According to sources, “The facility with features like three entry points (including ramp for seniors and physically- challenged), helps to ease the congestion during peak hours, apart from assisting women board their trains without any hassles.”
Speaking on this, Shailaja Subramanian, a commuter who travels from Mambalam to Egmore everyday, said, “This is extremely useful for us. Time spent is minimised as we now directly enter the premises from the Station Road to reach the platform. Also, there are sign boards to help commuters reach first class and women coaches easily.”
It may be noted that the introduction of the new platform for commuters from Mambalam side to reach destinations likeĀ Kodambakkam, Nungambakkam, Egmore till Beach Station, has also reduced congestion at the footover bridge connecting Ranganathan Street side in T Nagar.
Apart from this, the provision of benches here too allows commuters to be seated, while small-time vendors at Station Road find it logistically easy in shifting their wares to the market area.
Also, for the elderly and physically-challenged, the ramp facilitates smooth transition without the need to climb stairs.
Commenting on this, an official of the Railways, said, “The platform has been designed and developed to suit people of different ages and their requirements. In line with Swachh Bharat, adequate number of waste bins are also placed with written messages to keep the space clean and tidy.Ā The provision of benches allows commuters to be seated, while small-time vendors find it logistically easy in shifting their wares to the market area.
