2019 LS polls: BJP, Congress lock horns in Kanyakumari constituency

Chennai: Kanyakumari constituency is one of the seats in which the two national parties BJP and Indian National Congress will have a direct contest.

The constituency was formed after the delimitation in 2008 by merging Kanyakumari Assembly segment from the erstwhile Tiruchendur and Nagercoil constituencies.

This constituency was once considered strong holds of Congress. However BJP’s Pon Radhakrishnan emerged victorious over INC’s Vasantha Kumar from the seat during the 2014 general elections.

Both the parties have fielded the same contestants again this time. In 2014, 67.69 poll per cent was registered. Kanyakumari Lok Sabha constituency is currently composed of the following Assembly segments – Kanyakumari, Colachel, Killyur, Nagercoil, Padmanabhapuram and Vilavancode.
