Chennai:Â The Team Centre for Aerospace Research, MIT Campus, Anna University, has entered into the record books as the team has been selected as the world record holder for the longest duration of multirotor UAV in the 5 to 25 kg category.
The recognition has come eight months after the team conducted the world record initiative in July 2018. Also, Aero Club of India has recognised and acknowledged Centre for Aerospace Research as the bearer of national record in the duration category of multirotor unmanned aerial vehicle, a press release said.
The world record initiative of long endurance hovering of multirotor UAV was conducted by the Centre for Aerospace Research, MIT Campus, as an attempt of recognition and showcasing the team’s efficacy in indigenously developed unmanned aerial vehicles on 11 July 2018 in the sports complex of the College of Engineering, Guindy Campus, Anna University.
The event was a great success as the multirotor UAV achieved a duration of 6h 7 m and 45 s. The evidence and claims of the records were submitted to FAI by officials of Aero Club of India, New Delhi.
The world record was carried out under the umbrella of Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI), the world governing body for air sports, Switzerland. The initiative was monitored by Aero Club of India (ACI), national airsport control representative of FAI.
The Centre for Aerospace Research, MIT Campus, Anna University, is spearheading the developmental activities of unmanned aerial systems in the country focusing on societal applications for immediate and future needs of the nation.
